Dr Supratik Guha

• Dr Guha is the Professor at the Institute for Molecular Engineering (IME), The University of Chicago; Director of the Nanoscience and Technology Division and the Center for Nanoscale Materials at the Argonne National Laboratory. Earlier, at IBM Research, Dr. Guha pioneered the materials research that led to IBM’s high dielectric constant metal gate transistor, one of the most significant developments in silicon microelectronics technology, and used in over 50% of smart phones in use today. He was also responsible for initiating or significantly expanding IBM’s research and development programs in cyberphysical systems and sensor networks. Dr. Guha is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering and a Fellow of the Materials Research Society, American Physical Society and the recipient of the 2015 Prize for Industrial Applications of Physics. He received his Ph.D. in materials science in 1991 from the University of S. California.

Dr Monisha Ghosh

• Monisha Ghosh is currently a Research Professor at the Institute for Molecular Engineering (IME) at the University of Chicago, and an affiliate at Argonne National Laboratory. Prior to this she has worked extensively in industrial research and development at Interdigital (NY), Philips Research (Briarcliff Manor) and Bell Laboratories (Murray Hill) in the area of wireless communications and signal processing. Dr. Ghosh received her Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering in 1991 from the University of Southern California and her B.Tech in Electronics and Electrical Communications Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, in 1986. She joined Philips Research in 1991 as a Senior Member of Research Staff and was a member of the team that developed the first digital broadcast HDTV system. Dr. Ghosh has over 50 scientific papers and 40 patents. She received the Distinguished Engineer Award in Philips in 2008 and is a Fellow of the IEEE.

Dr. Roser Matamala

• Dr. Matamala is a Scientist at Argonne National Laboratory and a Fellow at the UChicago Consortium for Advanced Science and Engineering and at the Northwestern-Argonne Institute of Science and Engineering. She is an ecologist and biogeochemist who studies the carbon, water, and energy cycles at the ecosystem level and the changes occurring due to human factors, such as land-use and global climate change. She is an investigator for many Department of Energy, Office of Science, Biological and Environmental Research projects, as well as for ARPA.E and NSF. She is developing new sensors for detecting changes in belowground factors such as roots and soil moisture at the local to landscape level. She has been measuring and mapping the stocks and fluxes of carbon and water in terrestrial and atmosphere domains and she is characterizing the composition of soil organic carbon in forests, grasslands, tundra and wetland biomes.

Priyank Hirani

Project Director - Water to Cloud

• Priyank Hirani received his MS in Integrated Circuit Design from Imperial College London in 2013. He is a Young India Fellow (YIF) with experience in working with sensors for space science, biotechnology, agriculture and most recently, water quality monitoring.

Himank Sharma

Team Lead - Water to Cloud (IIC)

• Himank worked as a Network Consulting Engineer with Cisco for two years. He is a Young India Fellow (YIF2016). He worked on international development space in India and Africa with focus on improving livelihood for farmers through business & technology.

Ritambhara Chauhan

Technical Lead - Water to Cloud

• Ritambhara Chauhan graduated from IIT Hyderabad, in Computer Science and Engineering Science. She has worked with Bank of America Continuum, Mumbai, working on Risk Management reports. She specializes in writing problem-solving algorithms and using technologies including Python, Django and R

Dr Anand Kumar

Senior Water Research Lead - Water to Cloud

• Dr. Anand Kumar holds a PhD in water quality and associated mechanism from TERI School of Advanced Studies. He has been involved in the national and international projects related with the water quality as research scholar. He has 14 international publications and he has presented his work at various conferences.

Dr Srinivas Balivada

Senior Research Lead - Water to Cloud

• Dr Srinivasa Rao Balivada holds a Ph.D in Chemistry from Andhra University. He has been a research fellow at the Centre for Studies on Bay of Bengal at AU. He has also worked with Ministry of Earth Science on impact of oceanographic parameters on fishery. He has 9 national and international journal publications and has presented his work at various conferences.

Saba Mundlay

Data Analyst - Water to Cloud

• Saba completed her B.A. in Political Science, with concentrations in Computer Science and Economics, from Wheaton College in 2017. She has experience in backend web development, UI/UX design, and digital fabrication. Her primary interests are exploring how data-informed design can aid in the public policy making process. She works as a Data Analyst with the Water-to-Cloud project.

Dr. Nutan Maurya

Consultant & Research Collaborator

• Nutan Maurya joined Water to Cloud project in December 2018 as a social research collaborator. Her areas of interest are Urbanization and Cultural aspects of Environmental Crisis, Water pollution and related health and livelihood issues, Challenges of Waste-water Management in urban settings and water policy and political ecology of emerging pollutants.

Prashant Pandey

Research Assistant - Water to Cloud

• Prashant completes his masters in Water Science and Governance from TERI School of Advanced Studies, New Delhi. He joined Water to Cloud team in January 2019 as an intern and later in November, joined as Research Associate. His work includes initial site assessment, collection of water quality data, data cleaning, curation and statistical analysis, as well as preparing technical reports and notes.

Ziqi Ma

Data Collection and Network Connectivity Developer - WUSN

• Ziqi is a rising third-year undergraduate student at the University of Chicago, majoring in Computer Science and Statistics (expected June 2020). She joined the Guha group in December 2017 and has been working on LoRa sensor data transfer and embedded systems programming.

Dev Nair

Hardware Engineer - WUSN

• Dev is a fourth-year in the College at the University of Chicago, studying Molecular Engineering and Economics. He has been with the Guha group since December 2016.

Xufeng Xhang

Argonne Scholar - ANL Named Postdoc - WUSN

• Xufeng Xhang is currently a postdocotral fellow at Argonne National Laboratory and a Nikola Tesla Fellow. Dr. Zhang obtained his PhD form EE, Yale University (May 2016). His research interests are in micro/nano device development and applications. He has worked on magnon spintronics, optomechanics, integrated photonics, and surface plasmonics. His current research focuses on developing high-performance low-cost sensing systems.

Ujaan Purakayastha

Data Analyst and Hardware Engineer - WUSN

• Ujaan is a rising third-year in the college at the University of Chicago, majoring in Physics and Mathematics (expected June 2020). He will be working with the Thoreau group starting summer 2018.

William Kent

Website and Database Developer - Thoreau

• William is a second year in the college at the University of Chicago, majoring in Molecular Engineering (expected June 2020). He has been with the Guha Group since January 2017 and works on frontend and backend development of the Thoreau website.

Manish K Singh

Project Engineer - WUSN

• Manish graduated with a dual degree in Chemical Engineering from IIT Kanpur, India. After graduation, he worked in the semiconductor industry (TSMC, Taiwan) for 5 years and recently joined Guha group (IME, U Chicago) as a grad student.

Dmitry Shribak

Hardware Engineer - WUSN

• Dmitry is a rising fourth-year in the college at the University of Chicago, majoring in Physics and Molecular Engineering (expected June 2019). He has been with the Guha Group since November 2016 and works on development of the Thoreau sensor hardware and network connectivity.
